Politics PDP chieftains in Ekiti plan to defect

According to report by Daily trust newspaper, over 40 chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State are set to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Among those planning to defect are former acting governor of  the state, Mr Tope Ademiluyi, a former Nigerian envoy to the Republic of Congo, Princess Jolaade Onipede, a member of 4th House of Representatives,  Adeyemi Orilele and  immediate past Executive Secretary, National Health Insurance Scheme,  Dr. Femi Thomas.

A source close to the planned defection said arrangements have been concluded to ensure their smooth integration into the APC, for the party to be well prepared ahead of 2018 gubernatorial election in the state.
“Don’t forget that most of these heavyweight politicians served under Segun Oni’s government, who is now the APC national deputy chairman (South). Oni’s efforts have started yielding results,” the source said.
Another source said, “We have been permanently abandoned in a party we struggled to build. We have been unduly treated because of our love for the PDP, but as things stand now, we have to  take our destinies  in our own hands. We cannot continue to be oppressed in a party we invested so heavily to build.”
Publicity secretary  of the APC, Taiwo Olatunbosun, who confirmed the development, said the defectors would not be treated as new comers, adding that a committee has been set up to ensure their full integration.
