Ali Modu Sheriff emerge as PDP Chairman

The opposition party in Nigeria, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Tuesday named former Governor of Borno State, Alhaji Ali Modu Sheriff as its new chairman.  

According to the spokeman of the party, Mr Olisa Metuh all organs of the party, including, the national caucus, PDP Governors’ Forum and the National Assembly caucuses agreed on the selection of Sheriff.
 He also said that the decision would be communicated to the Board of Trustees and subsequently, the National Executive Committee, NEC, for ratification before a formal announcement would be made.

Sheriff who will replace Adamu Mu"auz who resigned shortly after the 2015 presidential election was  picked at the National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting which held today in Abuja.

The former Senator from Borno State, prior to being named the new Chairman of Nigeria’s largest opposition party, has been a controversial figure amid allegation that he funded and sponsored the Boko Haram insurgent group, an allegation he has since refuted.
