Ekiti primary school teachers protest over salaries

Primary schools in Ekiti State were shut down yesterday as teachers began a two-day warning strike over unpaid salaries and entitlements.
They were protesting the non-payment of the 2014 leave bonus and the outstanding September 2014 salaries which the current administration inherited from the former one.

Most parents were surprised when pupils started returning home as early as 7.45am, saying their teachers sent them back home.
But Governor Ayodele Fayose blamed the situation on the former governor whom he said failed to pay the teachers’ September 2014 salaries before leaving office.
Fayose in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Mr. Idowu Adelusi, denied the claim that the government withdrew workers’ salaries after it had been paid, saying the government was supposed to pay November, 2015 salaries only since two months allocations were combined to pay a month salary.
